Google Maps Timeline is a very innovative and beneficial technology for a user, as it let you access the routes and areas. It becomes even more important when you are going somewhere for the first time and don’t know the route. Google provides you the driving directions visually along with Artificial Intelligence voice which directs you on each and every step.
Your Google Map Timeline
With the help of this feature of Google you can access the places which you have been visited, how much distance have your covered and even the way which you have used to cover that particular destination, everything is available there.
In some cases, if you want to make the changes to the places which you have visited, it gives you the flexibility to change the route, the destination, the vehicle even the timing too. If you like you can delete any particular place also from your Google Map Timeline.
How to Create your Timeline on Android Phone
Note: You can see Timeline on the Google Maps app version 9.12 and up. If your Google Maps app is older, visit maps.google.com/timeline on your desktop or mobile browser to see Timeline.
Create Timeline
When you turn on Location History, your Timeline will reflect the places you have gone with the devices in which your account is logged-in and which are reporting location. Learn more about Location History.
Open Timeline:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap Menu Timeline .
- Tap More Settings.
- Make sure you see “Location is on.” If you don’t, tap Location is offturn on Location.
- Make sure you see “Location History is on.” If you don’t, tap Location History is offturn on Location History.
See your travels
Timeline will include where you travelled and the way you travelled from place to place, like walking, biking, driving, or public transportation, during the times when you have Location History turned on.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap Menu Timeline .
- To see another day or month, tap Show calendar swipe left or right and tap a day.
Tip: To see places that you’ve visited recently, tap Menu Your places Visited.
Turn on or pause Location History
When you turn on Location History, Google records your location data and places in your Google Account, even when you’re not using Google Maps. To turn on or pause your Location History, follow the steps below:
- On your Android phone or tablet, go to Timeline.
- Click SettingsLocation History Choose Enable Location History or Pause Location History.

See your travels
You can see how far you travelled and the way you travelled from place to place, like walking, biking, driving, or public transportation. Whether Timeline measures distances in miles or kilometers is based on your country.
- On your computer, open Google Maps.
- Sign in with the same Google Account you use on your mobile device.
- In the top left, click Menu .
- Click Timeline .
- To see another date, at the top, choose a day, month, and year.
Tip: To see places that you’ve visited recently, click Menu Your places Visited.
See your home and work on Timeline
If you’ve saved your home and work addresses, they’ll show up on Timeline. In addition to Timeline, this information may also be used in other Google products and services.
Edit Timeline
If a place is wrong on Timeline, you can edit the location and when you were there. To do this, turn on Web & App Activity:
- On your computer, go to Timeline.
- Find the place you want to change on Timeline and click the Down arrow .
- Choose the correct place or search for a place in the search box.
- To edit when you were there, click the time.
Note: If Web & App Activity is turned off, you won’t be able to edit locations or activities on Timeline, but you can delete a day or your entire Location History.
How to Create Your Timeline on Your iPhone/iPad
Create Timeline
To create Timeline, you’ll need to turn on your Location Services and Location History. When you turn on Location History, Timeline will reflect the places you have gone with the devices in which your account is logged-in and which are reporting location. Learn more about Location History.
Note: When you turn on Location Services on your device, your iPhone or iPad shares its location with the apps you use. Location data may be saved as part of your activity on other Google services like Google Search, when other settings are turned on, like Web and App Activity.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app .
- Tap Menu Settings .
- Tap Personal contentscroll down to “Location settings.”
- Make sure you see “Location Services is on.” If you don’t, tap Location Services is not set to always LocationAlways.
